Thomas Keith Orenthal is in the mist of a slump. He has suffered big losses to Izzy Insane and Alex Mason. He was also brutally attacked by Izzy during the last show and now this is getting to be personal as far as TKO is concerned. He is standing in the gym looking down at the traffic in Cleveland where he is training at with KOP.
Nalia and Vic Demarco have taken off to Brazil for a photo shoot and Melba has flown down to meet Nalia there. It is a big step in her career as the trip will also take her to Argentina and Peru and she will return with Nalia in June.
So where does this leave TKO? It leaves him with plenty of focus time. Or better yet plenty of re-focus time. KOP walks into the room.
KOP: So it appears you are hitting a bit of a rough spot in your climb to the top.
TKO: ( still looking out of the window ) I suppose that’s what you call it.
KOP: TKOOOOOOOOO! The fastest rising star in all of professional wrestling! You were your own HYPE MAN! Problem is guys like Izzy and Alex can’t be beaten with HYPE! They have to be beaten with ruthlessness! The same ruthlessness that Izzy displayed against you when he attacked you last show.
TKO: Is that why you didn’t run out to help me?
KOP: Help you? I helped you by letting you learn a valuable lesson. You see you started to get comfortable. You got your girl, a nice ride, some publicity, and people started to give you some mad props. You have a fan following and all of the girls scream when they see the “big sexy man coming.” (KOP laughs)
KOP: You have tremendous athletic talent that I can’t even touch, and you have youth on your side. But there is one thing you lack! It’s the one thing I have been trying to help you find! It’s the one thing you do need me for.
TKO: What is that?
KOP: A KILLER INSTINCT!
TKO: Is that a way of saying I’m soft?
KOP: Hell no! It’s a way of saying you are missing a vital piece of being a World Champion.
TKO: Man I go out to win every time and something happens.
KOP: Your talent is not enough! Those guys at the top have talent! You can’t go against these guys with raw talent or they will kill you! A killer instinct separates you from the pack. It’s what will allow your talent, to overcome the opposition.
KOP: Now you face Jacoby Douglass this week in the Paul Rowland Memorial Cup and I want you to display total ruthlessness in that tournament. You will win anyway you can. I want Jacoby in the hospital this week.
TKO: I’ll get it done KOP. Don’t worry I’ll put a lot of people in the hospital this week. I’ll still have my HYPE on man, but this time it will be what I will call KILLAH HYPE!
KOP: We’ll see! I heard you get fired up before when I talked with you. So I knew you would respond that way. Today’s practice is cancelled. We have a flight to catch, so go get dressed. I’m going to take you somewhere. A place where killer instinct lives. Then you will truly understand what I’m talking about.
TKO: Where?
KOP: It’s a surprise.
TKO wonders what KOP has in store but nonetheless he goes into get changed and then they both head down to KOP’s limo and then Walt drives them to Cleveland Hopkins Airport.
They go to the check in counter and KOP pulls out two tickets and hands them to the receptionist:
Receptionist: Two for Beaufort, South Carolina any luggage?
KOP: No we’ll get some stuff when we’re there.
TKO: South Carolina?
KOP keeps silent as he finishes the check in process and they go to their gate. Two hours go bye and they are now called to board their flight. First Class of course!
KOP: I’m going to sleep until we get there. No questions till we land about where we are going. I suggest you rest up too, your going to need it.
TKO looks strangely at KOP and he cannot imagine what awaits him in South Carolina.

(Continued from last role play)
US Airways Flight 1436 has landed at Hilton Head Airport 14 miles outside of Beaufort SC. KOP has awakened from his nap and he and TKO disembark and head into the airport, it’s 10 P.M. EST.
TKO is still trying to figure out what KOP has planned.
KOP: I already have our hotel arranged we’ll get there later on and check in.
TKO: Can’t we just go into town now?
KOP: Our hotel isn’t in Beaufort. Let’s go get our rental car.
They go to Enterprise and KOP rents a 2011 Charger Rallye.
TKO: Man how do you arrange a nice car like this?
KOP: Connections man connections.
Both men get in the car and KOP drives and they swing by a local Burger King and grab a bite to eat. KOP wants to be back by 11 P.M. so they eat quickly at head back to the airport. They park and head inside and the airport seems almost empty as most people are asleep this time of night.
They sit down in a waiting area and two Marines in uniform come walking near where they are sitting. TKO watches as KOP walks up to talk to them. He flashes some ID and then sits back down. Little does TKO realize that KOP has arranged every detail of this trip. Not as KOP but through his old connections as Ray Andrews, Gunnery Sergeant Ray Andrews USMC, Marine Special Forces.
TKO is only aware that Ray served in the Marines, but does not know al of the details of his service. TKO looks to his left as he hears some commotion and he sees about 30 young men walking through the airport and then the two Marines in uniform tell them to line up over by them and to shut their mouths. Some of the young men laugh a little, and are told to shut up again.
They walk the 30 men and TKO is told by Ray to follow along as they will observe what theses guys are going to go through. They head down some stairs in the airport to the USO room and the 30 men are seated. there are two more Marines in their and they begin to give instruction to the men. There is some paperwork after attendance is taken after a roll call. Then they are provided with a light meal, a sandwich and chips of some sort.
The men are not allowed to talk , but they talk anyway chuckling when told to be quiet. The Marines in uniform swear these guys talking will pay for it later. Its around 12:30 A.M. and the Marines line up the 30 recruits as they are now called and they are lead in groups upstairs.
KOP: Come on Thomas lets get the car we got a bus to follow.
TKO: Okay but why are watching these guys going to the Marines?
KOP: You’ll figure it out man, let’s go!
They get upstairs and walk out in front of the airport and there is a yellow school bus, not unlike anyone found anywhere else in America’s school systems, but this one is different in that it is carrying Marine recruits.
They get into the Charger, it’s dark gray and loaded with a hemi. Ray pulls up near the school bus and they observe the rest of the recruits being put on the bus.
KOP: I want you to remember what you saw in there, remember the cocky looks on their faces, an how smug they were in there.
TKO: Yeah this is like those boot camp shows on the history channel.
KOP: NO it is not! This is no made for TV bullsh*t, where the military puts on a show when the cameras roll. This is the real deal.
TKO: I see the guys are on the bus, but why aren’t those Marines getting on?
KOP: They’re going home, they did their job for the night and tomorrow more recruits will come here.
The bus begins it’s trip down US -278 to 170 to 802 the trip will take a little over one hour. TKO notices that Ray follows the bus closely. Ray begins to ask TKO some questions and the road is pretty much pitch black except the bus head lights and the Charger’s lights.
KOP: Do you know what those guys are doing on the bus right now Thomas?
TKO: Probably relaxing, some sleeping maybe?
KOP: No! They’re introducing themselves to each other. They are telling where they are from and what they did before joining the Marines. They are then beginning to talk about how badass they are and whose city is better than whose, what neighborhood is tougher, some were in gangs and they are telling their war stories from the streets. Others are talking about how the were the best high school or college athlete of all time.
TKO: I get it they all trying to make themselves look tough.
KOP: Right! They are all their own HYPE MAN! About right now they are arguing and some are making friends, but they all have their chest poked out and flexing right now.
They continue to follow the bus and about 50 minutes later they arrive at a checkpoint and a Military Police officer boards the bus. Then they see the MP get off and allow the bus to pass.
KOP pulls the Charger up to the checkpoint:
MP: ID please!
KOP: (hands ID) I should be on the list.
MP: (looks at list) Gunnery Sergeant Ray Andrews and guest Thomas Keith Orenthal, does he have his ID?
TKO shows them his ID and the MP welcomes them to Marine Corp Recruit Depot Parris Island South Carolina. KOP pulls off and it doesn’t take long to catch up wit the bus. The bus pulls up on the Island to the next checkpoint and there is agate they go through with KOP following behind. The gates closes behind them. The bus ten pulls up to the Receiving building and stops and there is silence.
KOP: You see that gate close?
TKO: Yeah?
KOP: On that bus those guys just saw that and they realize they are here for the long haul for the most part. Those tough guys are a little worried now. The Hype is starting to fizzle. Heart are beginning to pound a little.
A drill instructor now comes outside and he stands and stares at the bus making sure everyone can see him from the windows. It’s the first of many mind games the recruits on the bus will be subject to.
KOP: Now watch that D.I. This is like being in the ring at that moment when all the hype is gone and now your opponent is approaching you. What do you do TKO?
TKO: Get ready to whoop a$$!
KOP: Really? Watch this!
The drill instructor walks to the bus and now he boards it. There is a lot of commotion on the bus and then the Drill Instructor comes back off of the bus and those 30 recruits are running off that bus as if their lives where in danger. They all line up on the yellow footprints . The Drill Instructor is constantly going off on them . The 30 recruits are in total disarray mentally. Some of these same tough guys are ready to cry like little whining b*tches. TKO watches in amazement. Suddenly the recruits are running into the receiving building to be processed for 11 weeks of boot camp.
KOP: Now how did that one drill instructor get 30 men who outnumber him and could probably jump him and kick his a$$, to do everything he told them to do and scare the living hell out those guys.
TKO: Well he’s in charge.
KOP: Yes but that don’t mean sh*t. Your missing the point. The point is he has Killer Instinct! His Killer Instinct allowed him to put the Fear of God in 30 men and made them do everything he wanted them to do. He was in control of the opposition. Those 30 guys will be joined by 30 more guys tomorrow night and the same process will take place. They will put the together and form a platoon for training.
KOP: They will go to their training platoons on Saturday and meet their permanent Drill Instructors. There those recruits will begin the process of becoming Marines. Those who develop or have killer instinct will make it and then they will be able to do what you saw that Drill Instructor do.
TKO: So do I have to join the Marines to get this killer instinct?
KOP: Not at all. I just wanted you see what it looked like and what you can do with it. Besides Parris Island is a great place to train since I have access here. I wanted to get you away from the outside world and all of those distractions. A place to re-focus. This place is full of killer instinct.
TKO: Alright so we are training here this week then!
Both men pull off in the Charger and drive to some barracks that KOP reserved. They are mostly two man rooms, like the ones that KOP lived in when he did Drill Instructor duty for a year. (higher ranking Marines usually get orders to be a Drill Instructor or Recruiter for one year and go to special training for that).
They wake up at 7 A.M. and TKO can’t believe how early it is. Little does he realize that the recruits have been wake for two and half hours already and they are heading out to train now. He notices KOP looking out of the window.
TKO: How long have you been awake?
KOP: Since 5, I slept in a little.
TKO: Slept In?
KOP: Yeah lets go get your shorts and running shoes on and meet me outside.
TKO does as told and he meets KOP outside. They begin to run and they run all the way top a field where there are many platoons of Marine Recruits exercising.
KOP: These platoon here have been in boot camp for a while and will graduate next week. Notice the difference between them and the ones that just arrived last night. Look at their eyes and what do you see?
TKO: I see killer instinct in them. They’re hard and confident, no fear!
KOP: Exactly! That got that from hard training and self-discipline. They are 100% dedicated to what is going on here. Because if they weren’t, these Drill Instructors would have spotted it and these recruits wouldn’t be here. They have to earn the right to be called Marines. Notice they are only called recruit or private. Only when they graduate will they be called Marines and not a moment before.
KOP: The same holds true for being World Champion. You have to be 100% dedicated to winning that title. Only when you earn it will you have the right to be called Champion and not a moment before. This begins by developing a killer instinct.
Both men continue working out on the Island and KOP shows him some other things and shares a little bit about his time as a Marine recruit. Later TKO is sitting in the barracks staring out of the window. He begins to talk to himself:
TKO: Jacoby Douglass you’re a$$ is mine this week. Everyone in that tournament is mine this week. It’s time to debut the new TKO! I’m a championship machine now, Lord help whoever is in my way, because now I will win by any means necessary and I will control all that happens in that ring!
The scene ends with a hard edge look in TKO’s eyes.
